A YouTube channel and video checklist before sharing

A viewer should understand what a video is about before clicking and find the promised answer after watching. Review the whole path from title to channel page.

Set a specific purpose for the video

Choose one question, demonstration or story. Write a short outline that delivers the main point without forcing viewers to search through unrelated sections. The title and thumbnail should help someone decide whether the video answers their need; avoid promising an outcome the video does not provide.

Check the viewing experience

Open the published video on a phone. Confirm that audio and on-screen text are understandable, the description contains useful context, and any referenced links work. If the video is part of a series, make it easy to find the next relevant piece. Review the channel page too: the channel name, description and recent uploads should explain why someone might subscribe.

Look beyond views or subscriber count

Views and subscribers are visible numbers, but retention, relevant comments, returning viewers and visits to your intended destination can provide better context. Compare videos with similar topics and goals rather than assuming one number explains performance. Use the questions people ask as ideas for future content.

Match a service to the correct target

Channel subscriptions, individual video views and livestream-related services are different. Read the listing's full description, confirm whether it needs a channel or video URL, and check the quantity range and calculated charge. A public link should open the intended item for someone who is not signed in.

Check current platform rules. A paid service is not a promise of organic recommendations, watch time, monetization eligibility or long-term audience growth. Review your own analytics and the terms of the specific listing.
